Texas is known for many things; cowboys, the Alamo, and doing everything bigger and better are pretty universal truths, but many don’t know that they’re a pizza paradise. In fact, out of the whole state, the best pizza in Dallas is some of the best in the country. Really, the only Texan city that can genuinely compete is Austin, but that’s another article.

So, as per usual on Dishcrawl, let’s talk pizza.

The Best Pizza in Dallas: Top 3

Below are the three most exceptional pizza joints in Dallas, hands down. While the honorable mentions below are also certainly worth a visit, these first three are spots that have earned local love for years, and for a good reason.

Pie Tap Pizza Workshop + Bar

Pie Tap Pizza Workshop + Bar is hands down the best Pizza in Dallas, with only a few potential competitors. They craft a proprietary dough called “Romo,” bake their pies in dual Italian ovens, and use exceptional ingredients. They prepare the cheese (in most cases) in-house, the cured meats are Italian-imported and sliced to order, and the chefs create sausage according to the delicious house recipe each day. They also happen to have some of the best pasta in town - but that’s a story for another day.

If you want a pizza that’s unique and handcrafted to your order, there is no option better than Pie Tap Pizza Workshop + Bar.

Cane Rosso

Cane Rosso is some of the best pizza in Dallas, though it’s aimed at a particular palate. Those who love Neopolitan pies will delight in Cane Rosso’s AVPN-trained chefs and the pies they craft, served in what is arguably the first modern pizza style ever served. (Don’t come for me, Italian readers - I beg you.) Their dough is made fresh daily, the pies are fired in wood-fire ovens, and the mozzarella is made in-house daily - what more could you need?

If you’re a lover of authentic Neopolitan pizza, few places in Texas can compete with Cane Rosso.

Zalat Pizza - Fitzhugh Ave

Zalat is perhaps the most unique small-business-gone-chain pizza joint in the United States. They’re a heavily Vietnamese-influenced pizza joint that serves chef Khanh Nguyen’s life story in pizza form. While the food itself is stellar and truly communicative of Nguyen’s past, perhaps the best part of the tale is their staff’s treatment. Each employee, be they dishwasher or chef, is provided an incredibly robust benefits package with retirement and investment options - a truly fantastic concept that’s too rare in the industry.

Zalat is truly excellent and perhaps the most accurate representation of the American dream in the 21st century. So give them a chance and support a local small business in true Texan fashion, and you'll be greeted with the best pizza in Dallas.

Best Pizza in Dallas: Honorable Mentions

We love all pizza here at Dishcrawl and firmly believe every pie deserves its moment in the spotlight, hence this section. While these stops didn’t quite fit the bill for the top three, they’re still truly exceptional slices, no matter how you cut it.

Now - let’s talk about the places that do things differently. This time around, we have a spot so new that we couldn’t reasonably give it a rating - though they’re doing pretty cool things.

Delucca Gaucho Pizza & Wine Dallas

Delucca Gaucho Pizza & Wine (specifically their Dallas location) is something quite unique in pizza. They do all the usual things properly - they use a wood-fired oven, serve excellent wine, and deliver fresh, local pies to your table. But what truly sets them apart from the pack is the part of their name - Gaucho. This one word represents the union of pizza and a Brazilian-style, all-you-can-eat churrascaria, which roughly translates to, “Why the hell are you waiting? Go order a pie, now.”

And yes, before you ask, that is the technical translation

Neony Pizza Works

Neony Pizza Works is an incredibly new entry to the Dallas pizza scene, having opened its doors in the final months of 2021. Despite their baby-faced appearance against the longstanding veterans of the Dallas pie industry, Neony has garnered a buzz that’s not often seen. They’ve quickly gained a cult following for their innovative takes on traditional pizzas, incredibly reasonable prices, and the dedication of their staff to ensuring you get the best every time you cross their threshold.

If you want to support a brand-new, local business, Neony Pizza Works fits the bill to a tee - so give them a call and see what the buzz is about.
