A Love Letter to dishcrawl’s Restaurant of the Week ~ Sunnyvale Art Gallery Cafe
Dear Sunnyvale Art Gallery Cafe,
I stretch my legs and yawn in this comfy seat you have provided. What a wonderful morning to slowly ease into a bright and sunny living room area that you welcome me into.
Waking up to a handcrafted raspberry mocha makes my eyelashes flutter with pure soothing calm. It’s as if the fall is tickling my nose and your mocha is the warm velvet comforter covering my cold cheeks. Each sip is a luxurious and earthy chocolate seduction washing over my tongue. Deep breaths of soothing calm invigoration accompany.

Your energy makes me want to breathe in life. It’s calm in here. A gentle breeze kisses my cheek and I giggle as some whipped cream nibbles on my nose.
Ah, the breakfast sausage and bacon sandwich. Warm. Comforting. You can tell it seeks perfection. Light in touch, the flaky croissant plays on my fingers, encouraging my first bite.
I make sure each element of this masterpiece fits in my mouth for optimizal palate pleasure. Yes, crisp, light croissant, beautifully folded egg, thin and flavourful sausage, and bacon. Cheese melts into the sandwich parts and encourage togetherness of the ingredients. You, my beautiful sandwich, are deceptive. You are not heavy like many of your cousins out there. No, you are light and airy and paint your flavours on my tongue much like someone might take a swift paintbrush over an eager canvas. There is nothing but delight.
Aside my sandwich rests a sweet bowl of clementines.
Cut with precision into juicy orange flower shapes, the sweet fruit cleanes my palate and quenches my thirst for a balance of sweet in between my savoury meat filled bites.
I reach for another goodie and run into the Michelangelo. Michelangelo, I can already tell with your gleaming eye that you are trouble. Your hot pastrami filling, sweet honey mustard mixed with a kick of dijon squeal playtime for my tongue. Melted pepper jack for a kick and grilled red bell peppers and onions look massaged into your meat and bread. For this bite, I’ll use my tongue vigorously. You seem to enjoy rough biting as well, and so you’ll have it. A well balanced sandwich with a kick.
Next, the Chinese Salad with Chicken. A gorgeous tossed array of romaine, spinach and red cabbage. As if someone has splashed a rainbow of water color paints onto a once-white wall. The carrots, wontons, grilled chicken, and dressing pile on happily and mingle till they get the chance to meet your mouth.
Ah, but another masterpiece doth beholdeth. the Da Vinci! Such creative names for sandwiches, and tis needed to pay due respect for the simple elegance you put into your creations, dear Sunnyvale Art Gallery Cafe.
With provolone melted over tender Korean BBQ beef and sweetened up with grilled white onion and tangy red bell peppers, my mouth pauses. I know this is the end of the road this morning, dear sweet. I know it is the end, but it will not be the end of my visits. I hear the sound of amateur artists gathering, their laughter still seeping from the cracks of your walls. I hear you are a community cafe, and I can’t wait to come back.
With that and a bite of fresh clementine, I bid you adieu. The art that hangs on your walls is translated into simple, yet delightful food. A great way to spend my Sunday morning.
xxoo,
Love, Scarlet @scarletsutra
